Baby!!!!

Jolyon Max was born on July 5th at 3:21 am, after a long labor with some exciting plot twists we'll be posting about later. It was completely unmedicated, natural birth and pretty exactly following our birth plan, except for not being able to donate cord blood because he was born on a weekend. Stephanie was an absolute paragon throughout the whole two days of labor, and our doula and Jan were amazing support.

Jolyon weighed 7 lbs, 12.8 oz, and is 20 inches long, with a 35 cm head. He has a very full head of dark brown hair, and currently blue eyes. He is totally a champion at breastfeeding already and shows all signs of being a really good, spunky baby in excellent health. He's named after a favorite book (it's actually a medieval version of Julian, but The Forsyte Saga repopularized Jolyon) and has my paternal grandfather's middle name, and we couldn't be more besotted with him.

He's absolutely perfect. I know it is every parent's prerogative of having the cutest baby, but I really think we seriously do have the world's cutest baby.

I'm happy to announce that the overall winner of the babypool is Kristine, our good friend and pregnancy buddy who welcomed her daughter about 15 hours later on the same day. Very close in second place is my mother, Maria!

  1. Yeah! Are you two home yet? (Not sure how this natural birth at the hospital thing works.)

Curious to hear the rest of the birthing story--and, of course, meet the spunky new addition to your family.

  7. I went onlineand looked up the most common measurements for babies for ther baby pool. So it sounds like your baby was pretty average in dimensions.

But I'm pretty sure my baby is the cutest one in the whole world ;-)

    Looking forward to play dates!

  9. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! We had been checking for updates every few hours and we're so glad!
Are you guys going to call him Jolly?
Weird - he is exactly, exactly the same size as Ella was, (with her revised height measurement). Okay, so 0.2oz off in weight, but that's not much! Same length, weight & head circumference. Wow! (Now let's see if Stephanie can get him to 11lb in 3.5 weeks :-P)
So obviously you too have an evolutionarily excellent baby!
