On sleepers

So, Jolly has just outgrown some of his 3-6 month clothing, which brought along with it the obvious exchange for the 6-9 month clothing.

This was the age for which we'd stopped buying tons of sleepers thinking that maybe Jolly would be wearing proper outfits more often instead, and the sleepers only used for sleeping.

Not so.

I get that Jolly is an unusually flaily child, and he is also very interested in his feet, so mileage may vary... but, in these parts, two piece outfits are not very feasible.

First, socks are very fun to take off right now. (Though the new nifty Trumpette socks we got as a gift actually seem to stay on fine.) Secondly, with the amount of kicking he does, pants often ride up and expose calf and knee, and we don't keep the house that warm.

Pants with built in feet seem like they should work well, but then the second problem comes into effect - that our baby is not as wide as the manufacturer intended. So, the pants are either too short (when they fit in the waist) or too wide (when they fit in length).

So, overalls with feet work better. But the shirt underneath also rides up a lot.

Ultimately, sleepers are the best way to ensure that our child remains covered by clothing and we don't have to continually pull down sweaters and pant legs, or pull up pant waists and socks. Two piece outfits are very cute, but the quantity we inherited covers the amount we would need for outings where our child should be extra adorable...particularly outings to other people who heat their houses more. For around our own house, sleepers and long sleeved onesies underneath are the base garment of choice, sometimes with a cardigan sweater over.

I hope other people aren't overly judging of the fact that we're keeping our child in pajamas during the day. But, we periodically see other kids of the same age or older out and about in sleepers, too, so I don't think we're the only ones.

Kudos go to Circo, the Target brand, for having cute, cheap, all-cotton sleepers without slogans or licensed characters. I like their entire range but I'm totally in love with the 3-pack ones that go over the head and don't button down the front, just down the legs. Too bad we didn't discover these until just now (previously they were always on backorder)... we just bought the largest size, but I would love having these in larger sizes to come!

Footie sleepers just seem super comfortable in eliminating the pajama pants riding up. A lot of the reviews for kids' sizes seem to be from college students who manage to squeeze into the extra-large, so (Martha Stewart and) I can't be the only one coveting the infant sleepwear!
