Yesterday Jolly's second tooth finally burst through the gums! And he's also been switched to size 2 diapers!
I also have a bit of a bathtime conundrum. Baths are still super-fun as always, though lately, Jolly has not liked lying down flat in the bath anymore. That in and of itself isn't much of a problem, and the alternative positions (sitting up or semi-reclined) are totally fine with our little dude, so, happy bathtime has been restored without much difficulty. We can even wash his hair with only minimal squalling.
The problem that arises, though, is that Jolly has gotten really into drinking the bathwater. In any sort of sitting position, he slumps his head forward and then dips his chin into the water, so he can slurp up the water.
He sort of does this in the shower, too, where he happily sucks on my shoulder and the water beading up on it.
I make sure to feed him before a bath or shower, and it seems to leave his enthusiasm for drinking the tub water undiminished. What's up with this, exactly? Does anyone else have a baby who does this?
Bottom line is that it's not the end of the world if he drinks some bathwater, whether or not it's a bit dirty or soapy. It definitely is nigh impossible to prevent, since the only position from which he can't crane his head down is the one which is very unacceptable at the moment - possibly because it impedes access to drinking the water, actually.

Ella is on the bathwater kick via a washcloth - dip, suck, dip, suck. I figure it won't kill her!
ReplyDeleteOooh, how sophisticated! She's using a TOOL!
ReplyDeleteSo glad that J. isn't the only one... and I agree, it won't kill either of them.
Miles has never tried to lap up the bath water. He IS fasinated when we drip water from the sponge onto his belly and will watch the running stream of water with facination. He's never tried to put his mouth there though, and he's got the skills if he were so inclined.
ReplyDeleteI can just see Jolyon drinking the water, it sounds pretty cute!
Nutella, we should totally try that! I bet sponges and washcloths would be a big hit as bathtime playtoys... even though I suspect Jolyon will take a page from Ella, above, and just use them as a vehicle for imbibing the bathwater in new ways.
ReplyDeleteWe'll have to photodocument the water drinking in a way that preserves everyone's modesty. It IS pretty cute.
