Tuesday: plan to do blooddraw in the morning. Pick up paperwork from primary care doctor to make sure that the central clinic lab orders the right thing. RJ goes to bed at 11:30 pm.
Wednesday: RJ wakes up at 4 am. Crap. Ephiny and I have sleepy conversation about how we're TOTALLY not going to do the blooddraw today given that the lab is opening at 7:30 and that is a long time with a fasting baby.
Thursday: RJ wakes at 3:30 am. Ephiny has doctor appointment in the am to check on the state of her gums, so blood draw wasn't happening today anyway. We get the sense that RJ is perhaps still feeling too poorly to go back to his pre-sickness reliable 7 hour stretches of sleeping. Steely, we resolve to do blood draw tomorrow without regard to wakeup time, since the weekend the lab opens later and it's a holiday weekend to boot and we really want to know what's up with RJ's liver values and blood lipids.
Friday: RJ wakes up at 3 am. Double crap. Why didn't we do this on Wednesday again? We soldier onwards as agreed, regardless. The extra hour of fasting ends being a lot of not-fun for Ephiny, especially because RJ finds walking around our house to be much less soothing than walking around a hospital floor or the ferry, because he KNOWS our house and it is boring and therefore not an acceptable substitute for eating. We get up Jolly after 6 and and get on the 6:40 ferry and get to the blood draw at 7:40, right after the lab opens. The rest of the day is a bonanza of eating and sleeping for both of our boys.
Saturday: RJ wakes up at... 6:30 am. After sleeping for nearly 8 hours, doubling what he's been doing in the new year ever since getting sick. Ha ha ha. Nice to know that RJ appears to be feeling a bit better, at least enough to get back to his pre-illness normal sleep stretch.
We're spending the rest of the day hoping to get a call back about the blood test results, and playing "where in the bureaucratic shuffle did the referral to the pediatric hepatologist get stalled", and also, going to Ikea. Ikea is like a soothing balm for our collective brains, and this will help take our minds off the fact that RJ has over the past week seemed very itchy (burrowing his face in my arm and flailing back and forth, raking at his face with his hands) and that this is maybe not the Best Ever Sign, especially because his skin is non-flakey and non-rashy for a change.
