Happy post

RJ laughed for the first time yesterday. It was glorious.

And all seems to be going well in baby output land again, so we're all enjoying a beautiful snowy day. No power loss yet, though we suspect strongly that's coming and are ready for it, with a raging fire in the woodstove and tons of prepped meals in the fridge and lots of clean laundry and new tapers in all our candlesticks.

And lastly, Jolly found his toy Porsche somewhere (it had gone missing shortly after we returned home, as he'd removed it from the diaper bag and put it somewhere special only known to him, then forgotten). This afternoon he had a great time playing with it. It seems in fine working order to me, but according to Jolly it is very, very broken and needs to be fixed at the garage. If you ask him what is broken, he will list all of the parts he can think of. "The ENGINE is broken. The MOTOR is broken. The WHEELS are broken. And... and... um... the DOORS are broken. And.... the LOCKS." And so on. Then the poor very, very delapidated Porsche needs to get towed to the station and then go on the train to the mechanic that can fix it. And then once it gets to the mechanic, it accidentally crashes into a wall and BREAKS EVEN MORE, just when you thought things couldn't get worse! The surge of imaginative play is so very entertaining.

  1. If you replace mechanic with hospital and the various car parts with body parts, you have Ella. Of course, I'm sure Jolly's Porsche is more patient than Ella's broken humans, who are almost invariably her poor long-suffering parents :-P
