Included on grandparental request

So RJ is on another episode of several consecutive lighter colored stools last night and this morning. He had another bout in the middle of the night a few days ago, that spontaneously resolved, and we're hoping very much this one does as well... still, unpleasant, and we're all feeling that nagging worry around the edges of an otherwise lovely weekend day.

I wonder when the frissons of panic at the thought of changing a soiled diaper will go away. It's rather like checking for blood on every bathroom visit after two miscarriages (and two rousing bouts of pregnancy bleeding with RJ). If that is any precedent, it will take a long, long time -- I'm still checking the toilet paper to this day, just out of habit.

Also, RJ's cholesterol levels are a bit high, both according to lab ranges and from what I've read about normal newborn cholesterol levels.
Cholesterol: 211 (Normal 50 - 199 mg/dl) - bleh.
LDL or 'bad' cholesterol: 145 (Normal 30 - 129 mg/dl) - bleh again.
HDL or 'good' cholesterol: 47 (Normal 40 - 120 mg/dl)
Cholesterol/HDL ratio: 4.5 (Normal 1.5 - 5.0)
Triglycerides: 97 (Normal 40 - 249 mg/dl)

And, for posterity, here are the liver enzyme values from a week ago:
GGTP: 163 (where normal is 5 - 45 u/l) -- obviously, high by a lot, though at least a lot less bad than it once was.
ALT:26 (Normal 8 - 40 u/l)
Alkaline phosphatase: 292 (Normal 120 - 320 u/l)
AST:34 (Normal 12 - 65 u/l)
Bilirubin, direct: 0.2 (Normal 0.0 - 0.6 mg/dl)
Bilirubin, total: 0.5 (Normal 0.3 - 1.0 mg/dl)
Albumin: 4.5 (Normal 3.0 - 5.0 g/dl)
Total protein: 6.1 (Normal 4.5 - 7.7 g/dl)

I'm very very glad we're meeting with the pediatric hepatologist on Wednesday morning.
