Saturday RJ unleashed a smile, but today it's been interactive and in response to silly noises and repeating his cooing (which has also recently ramped up). Apparently, the "pa rum-pum-pum pom" part of the little drummer boy is comedic gold.
Also, we just had another clothing rotation, because the sleepers and onesies were too small to fasten in the crotch - he seems to share Jolly's (and my) long torso issue. Our child is now, at 6 WEEKS, wearing 6-9 month or 9 month size clothing. Clothing that big brother Jolly wore at those ages, actually, so nothing where the sizing is particularly screwy or unrealistic.
We're also a bit befuddled by the fact that RJ, like Jolly, derives great job from lying down in his crib and kicking (only RJ adds more arm thrashing instead of ultra-frenetic kicking that was Jolly's signature move). If he is cranky and it's not because he's hungry or needs to burp, it's because he needs to spend some recumbent time in his crib (or bassinet), chilling out and cooing and flailing his limbs about. We had to rediscover this again by accident, because it is SO counter-intuitive and you feel like such a terrible parent PUTTING YOUR RAGING BABY DOWN rather than bouncing or swaying or singing or doing the other things that are supposed to be soothing to babies, but apparently, we make some very contrary babies in this household. Either that, or we're somehow utter pants at holding babies. OTHER babies seem to buy into my soothing jiggling and crooning, though.
