Jolly-isms

Jolly says lots of adorable things that I want to share and record for posterity. First, things he used to say but which have now been eclipsed by language development:

- contractions of "on it" and "in it." "Has a bug on't." "Has milk in't." It's hard to convey in writing how cute this was. Jolly now says "on it" and "in it."

- whenever he wanted something, he said "want a need a X.". "want a need a kiss." (frequently uttered for bumps and falls).

- the ubiquitous "Das?" was replaced by "what's this?" and then "what's this called thing?" Now it is usually "what's this called?"

- My favorite current Jolly-ism is his appending of "maybe?" to nearly any sentence. "We can go outside, may-be?" The "maybe" is often drawn out into a plaintive request.

- Probably the most frequently uttered phrase right now is "do it myself!" sometimes, though, he admits "I need help." For a while both these phrases were most often accompanied by "big jump."

Vaguely language-related story: Jolly has been learning about taking turns. We were on a sparsely populated ferry in the evening and he was playing with the arcade car game (pretending to drive while the screen saver goes is very entertaining to a small child). Then he got off and said, "the other little boy have a turn?" I told him that he was the only little boy around, so it could be his turn again, but that he was being very good by wanting to share.
