This evening Jolly wanted to build a block tower. He picked up one block, then picked up a second block and said "two blocks." Understanding of numbers! After I commented on how this was exciting, he picked up a single block and said "one block." He can also identify the blocks by color.
In other news, we are having our deck rebuilt, which involves a contractor in the back yard, right outside the sliding glass door, working with TOOLS. Jolly thinks this is the most exciting thing ever, and has been carrying his tools, especially the hammer, around everywhere and trying to bang on everything with it while gleefully exclaiming, "bang! bang!" This leads to a lot of discussion on what is acceptable to bang. Ok: toolbox, toys, high chair (but not too hard - the high chair is getting a lot of dents). Not ok: heirloom furniture, cat. Jolly also takes the toolbox to bed with him and cuddles with the hammer and screwdriver while going to sleep.
