Point 1: Over the past week, Jolly has learned the world "llama". This is not the most useful word, because although we live near a farm and lots of people in our neighborhood have animals, no one has any llamas. Nor do we have many llama-themed books or toys, although I sense that might change in the near future. Currently we have only one book with a llama in it - on one page. So, I am not sure where this preoccupation with llamas came from.
The term "llama" has since been very cheerfully applied to all kinds of non-llama entities. It's a bit dadaistic. "Jolly, what is that?" *Points to lamp* "Llama!" "Would you like to eat more nuts?" "Llama!" "Do you want to climb onto the chair?" "LLllaaaama!!" "Where is mummy's bellybutton?" "Llama! Llama!"
This also bears more than a passing resemblence to the credits of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which makes it even extra hilarious.
[Edited to add: Today it was discovered that any animals that Jolyon does not know the sound of, must of course say "Llama!". Including llamas themselves.]
Point 2: The other day I had to go back in on pacifier duty to establish a naptime, something which I thought we had finished with for, oh, about 15 months now. This time, though, the problem causing the angry shrieks of rage was that Jolly's baby doll had lost his pacifier, and that Jolly absolutely could not go to sleep until the doll's pacifier had been reinserted. Happily, the baby doll is less prone to accidentally spitting out its own pacifier, so this ritual only needs repeating once.
Inserting the pacifier is the main point of interest with the baby doll right now... I hope that future younger siblings have some great enthusiasm for the pacifier as well, since Jolly is absolutely obsessed with making sure the doll is able to self soothe by sucking. The doll loses the pacifier as a result of being banged about or Jolly taking it out? NOT OKAY. Code Red. All parents report for pacifier reinsertion duties, which are still beyond his fine motor skills to execute independently.

He sounds like so much fun! Ella's main baby doll preoccupation is nappy duty, which involves proclaiming 'Poos!' or 'Wees!', laying them down on a cloth and swabbing them all over. Sometimes it's a bit like a cholera epidemic at our place :-P
ReplyDeleteHahaha. I am loving the cholera epidemic at your place! That's even funnier than the pacifiers, and potentially much more useful when Ella someday becomes a big sister. I suspect that Jolyon will just become very very irate if a future sibling ever dares to not want a pacifier in their mouth. Diaper changing enthusiasm, on the other hand, can totally be harnessed for good!
