Jolly is a biped!

Jolly started really walking a couple of weeks ago, and has been getting better at it ever since. He took his first steps were in the middle of September, so he's been working up to this for a while. When he first started the walking he would still crawl about half the time, but now it's all walking.

Last weekend I took him outside to get some fresh air, in his spiffy new boots with fake fur on them, and I didn't have to worry about him getting soaked and muddy in the first few minutes from crawling around in the grass. He did topple over quite a bit, especially as the grass is uneven and he kept trying to walk faster than his coordination allowed, but he got right up every time.

In other news, Jolly has been a bit less jolly lately, since he has hit the age of Having Very Strong Opinions but not being able to talk yet. Instead, he whines and shrieks. We usually know what he wants, but he can't always have it (cue the Rolling Stones, which I sing to him sometimes: "You can't always get what you wa-ant...") We keep telling him not to bite the cat, and that he can't bang on the computer, or chew on our cell phones, or eat unlimited amounts of chocolate, and we change his diapers and wipe his nose and wash his hair and he doesn't understand why any of this has to happen. It's hard to be a toddler.

  1. Zannie has also suddenly become less jolly. She gets really upset when mommy needs her pen to grade or daddy won't let her touch the knives. Glad we're entering this new phase of parenthood in good company.

Congrats to Jolly on his biped status! He'll be outrunning Zannie very soon. That kid was born to run!
