The bilingual child

Jolly is currently stacking blocks on his pegboard (by color!) and listening to Caspar babypants. The song "Mr. Rabbit" came on and Jolly promptly announced "Hase!" He also pointed out a monkey on his duvet cover today and told me alternately "monkey" and "affe." Guinevere also reported that he was talking about his knife and then looked at her and said "messer," since he knows that is her word for it. Language acquisition is amazing.

  1. This is so !@T#*(^ cool I can hardly stand it! In the beginning the strategy was very clearly "I'm just going to pick whichever word is easier to say", but he's now really beginning to get there's two languages for the same thing.

YYaaaayy! Bilingual brain development accomplished in a monolingual world!
